End of an Era

People have been asking us what we've been up to lately... and I just tell them "family stuff". Actually, the past couple weeks we've made 2 trips to Huntington, 1 to Bethel and 1 to Goshen to watch some of my sister, Kendra's, very last basketball games. It's hard to explain unless you've had a sibling in sports - the excitement, memories, and togetherness that it brings with it. But for 12 years, my sister has brought all those things to us and more - whether through basketball, softball, volleyball, track or cross country (yes, she did play/run in all of those, and yes - some at the same time).

But "all good things must come to an end" right? And in a tournament game against Bethel two weeks ago, it did. I don't know who was more teary-eyed... me or her. To know my sister is to know the "love of the game". Through her, I watched the only 5th grader able to do a jump shot grow into an Ohio High School state runner-up, and then to the lone senior on a Huntington University girls basketball team. And yes, I have to brag... some of her noted accomplishments:

High School Records Kendra holds...
- 1,000 Point Club (with 1,030 points)
- Most Games played (100)
- Most Games started (100)
- Most 2 pt. field goals made (343)
- Most chargest taken

Kendra's not only exceled in every sport she's touched, but done so with the morals, integrity and level-headedness that would make any big sister proud. Kendra, like I've said dozens of times before, I'll say it once more... "You're my hero. And I'll never get tired of being 'Kendra's sister'".
